I am the Associate Head of the Accounting and Financial Management Subject Group in the Faculty of Business and Law.

I have had significant commercial experience in accounting and finance, having worked for GE and First Choice Plc. Whilst in industry I developed a keen interest in Corporate Governance and have recently completed my PhD on Institutional Shareholders preferences on corporate governance.  

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

I have significant experience in teaching and learning. I have been with the University of Portsmouth for over ten years, where I have gain extensive experience in curriculum development and quality assurance.  Prior to this, I gained significant experience in industry working in accounting and finance, where my responsibilities included managing and training teams.

I am both professionally qualified as a Chartered Accountant, as a member of ACCA and hold a PhD.

This has led me to my PhD is titled 'Institutional shareholders preference on corporate governance', this research found that institutional shareholders tilted their portfolios to firms with better corporate governance, and specific firms with better audit environment. This has to lead me to focus my current research on the interactions between institutional shareholder and proxy advisory services on the audit environment. 

I am also examining other areas of corporate governance, including board diversity and social capital.

I currently teach Auditing for level 6. I also supervise PhD, Postgraduate and Undergraduate dissertations
