Personal profile

I am a Registered General Nurse and I have had a varied nursing career, both as a civilian and within the military.

I joined the university in December 2017, following a teaching role within a hospice as a Lecturer in Palliative Care where I led a programme called Six Steps+ which is an End of Life care programme for care homes.

I have had experience in Higher Education at the University of Surrey and also at Birmingham City University, and I have been succesful in becoming a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

My recent clinical roles have included working as a Senior Staff Nurse in a Nursing Home for Ex Service Personnel with Acquired Brain Injuries and also within a hospice setting.

I am currently the module co-ordinator for Enhancing Professional Nursing Practice which is a 60 credit module in year 3 and this module allows the students to develop their knowledge, professionalism and comptence related to practice to enable them to meet the requirements for entry to the NMC register. This role also includes me being an Academic Assessor and Sign Off Assessor.

I also currently lead the Personalising Nursing Care module, which is a 20 credit first year module. This module centres on preparing the students to go out into practice for the first time, and focuses on ensuring the patient is at the centre of nursing. In 2022, I was honoured to have been nominated for the Student Nursing Times Award for Innovation, as a result of developing an interactive video for first year student nurses, who could choose their own pathway, which the student nurses gave excellent feedback. This also allowed me to present at the Faculty Showcase in 2023 where I presented the idea and development of the interactive video.

As a moving and handling facilitator, I am part of a team that delivers high quality moving and handling training across the school for nurses, ODP, paramedics and radiography students.
