I am a highly motivated and skilled educator with registration in both Adult and Children’s nursing and a wealth of experience across clinical practice and Higher Education. My research interests encompass pedagogy, student support and the intersection between theory and clinical practice. I am currently undertaking doctoral studies with a project examining the impact of Virtual Reality on student empathy.
My current role is as Associate Head (Academic) within the School of Health and Care Professions where I lead on matters relating to teaching, learning and assessment. As a member of the school management team I assist in the operational running of the school and delivery of the school, faculty and university strategic plans.
I am chair of the School Education Quality Committee and a member of the School Executive Committee and Faculty Education and Student Experience Committee.
Alongside my academic appointment I also undetake consultancy work for the Nursing and Midwifery Council (UK) where I sit as a panel member on Fitness to Practice hearings,
Previous academic roles include Placement Lead for the School of Health and Care Professions, Deputy Field Lead of the University of Southampton Bachelor of Nursing (Adult) programme, Academic Integrity and Fitness to Practice Officer, Faculty Lead for resuscitation, module lead and personal academic tutor. I have also been heavily involved in designing, resourcing and delivering simulation, clinical skills, classroom based and virtual learning resources. An additional role has been the support of students with disabilities or learning differences in managing their learning needs.
Prior to my appointment as a lecturer within the University of Southampton I gained a wealth of clinical practice experience within Critical Care at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS trust. I am also an Advanced Life Support provider and qualified as a Resuscitation Council (UK) Instructor in 2007.
I was appointed to the role of Senior Lecturer in the University of Portsmouth in July 2016 as a founder member of the Bachelor of Nursing programme team.
In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):
