Personal profile

Hi everyone,

My name is Evangelos but my friends call me Vangelis. Although, I am originally from Greece I have been living in Belgium for the past 3+ years.

My educational background is quite interdisciplinary as it combines history, EU integration and digital humanities. From a professional perspective, I work as a senior EU consultant mainly on digital topics.

Ideally, my professional path combines policy analysis/strategy with visualisations using Tableau to communicate academic research to audiences.

Initially, my interest in EU politics started with my MA in EU Integration in Greece on the topics of: EU economic & social convergence, the EU economic governance and more recently NextGenEU and the Digital Transition. To that end, I studied EU legal documents (e.g., treaties or directives), reports (e.g., 8th Cohesion Report from DG Regio) and did research on theories such as Quality of Government (QoG) and datasets such as: Digital Economy & Society Index (DESI) and Eurostat (EU Green Deal).

Right after my MA I graduated with an advanced (master-after-master) MSc in Digital Humanities by the most innovative European university (KU Leuven), I acquired hands-on expertise on digital tools and techniques which allowed me to combine my knowledge about EU politics with a data visualisation project implemented with Tableau software.

In 2019, I conducted a 6-month paid internship employed by European Commission in the DG of Joint Research Centre (JRC) (Varese, Italy). My daily tasks included: interviews, sensitive information management, archiving and knowledge discovery. For that, training on EU Commission’s document management software (ARES) and E-Domec was provided by the institution. In 2021 I undertook an internship in the iCandid project for LIBIS (IT department of KU Leuven libraries). My tasks included the improvement of the User Experience(UX) for a data aggregation platform through data visualisation. For that, working with the Abstract Visualisation Tasks methodology and translating them to a technical team was focal. For a very short term, I worked as IT solutions assistant in NTT Data for EU projects (Roborder & CREST).

My full-time professional career started in August 2021 at KU Leuven (LIBIS) as an application manager. My role focused on the improvement of library operations through a Unified Resource System (Alma). I performed inter alia: configuration of cloud apps, creation of visualisations (Oracle BI), documentation & video tutorials, PowerPoint presentations and workshops.

Today, following my passion for digital my dream came true and I am working towards my PhD topic on EU's digital transition. Thus, if you are also interested in EU topics in the spectrum of the digital transition (e.g. AI Act, Data Services Act, Data Act etc.), the policy conceptualisation at the level of the EU institutions (e.g. trilogues) or even the national policy implementation and quality of government please feel free to reach out to me! I would love to chat.
