Due to the variety of projects I was working on, I have gained a very broad research scope and experience. My research interests are in smart materials and multifunctional thin films, surfaces and interfaces, surface functionalization and modification, nanotribology, nanomechanics, and advanced characterization of materials in engineering and life science sectors. As surfaces and interfaces are integral parts of any product in any industrial sector, being it hip implants, engine components, protective coatings, it is truly interdisciplinary research area.
The focus of this fellowship would be on the development of smart and multifunctional, bio-inspired coatings and surfaces using additive manufacturing and physical vapour deposition techniques, and surface modification methods including ion and plasma irradiation. This is perfectly aligned with the Future and Emerging Technologies theme in the focus area of Materials, Design and the Circular Economy.
It might also overlap with Transport as well as Health sectors, especially were the development of future materials and especially advanced coatings and surfaces for various applications are required.
