Building capacity to understand the effect of pain in recovery from amputation

Project Details

Description

Rehabilitation following lower limb amputation is a multifaceted and prolonged process. The fitting of a prosthesis and successful adaptation to limb loss is, for many individuals, one of the final stages of that process. It is critical that barriers to prosthetic adaptation, such as pain, are identified and addressed as soon as possible to support rehabilitation. Working together with clinical and academic partners through existing and new collaborations, we aim to understand the impact of pain on the rehabilitation process and strive to develop clinical guidance and inform multimodal interventions aimed at improving patient outcomes. Collaborations between different local trusts and academic partners will accelerate the positive impact of research findings into practice and create sustainable partnerships between centres, founded on addressing issues of clinical importance, that help build research capacity and capability.
