Constructing the Past: Creating Memories, Shaping Identities

Project Details

Description

Faculty-Funded Strategic Project

Layperson's description

This projects build on the existing strengths of the ‘Cultures of Commemoration’ project by examining (re)presentations of the past and their link to the construction of identities – personal, local, national. Focusing in particular (but not exclusively) on the local area in order to forge strong links with local minority communities and bodies such as Portsmouth City Council, the Royal Victoria Hospital at Netley and the D-Day Museum the project aims to give a voice to local minorities (such as the Portsmouth Jewish and Muslim Communities) in order to create a sense of (his)stories of the past and the present.
