Data discovery made easy: Applying ML to a diverse social science database

Project Details

Description

This project investigates how social scientists are currently finding and using statistics and other secondary data to inform their research. It will then develop a prototype interface using a large language model to examine the potential for such an AI tool in the social sciences. The prototype will be based on using the system behind a Vision of Britain through Time and ChatGPT. It is part of the 'Future Data Services: Pilots to enhance data services' Programme, which is funding a series of pilot solutions and approaches at different universities to address some current and future data service delivery challenges.

This project is a collaboration between the GBHGIS Project team based in the School of the Environment, Geography and Geosciences who are providing the statistical content and social science viewpoint, and colleagues in the Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation who will provide the technical expertise, including the use of ChatGPT.
