Project Details
Description
GEM-CARE (Gingival Evaluation and Monitoring in Care Homes with AI-Support) addresses the critical need for accessible dental care among elderly care home residents in the UK, where mobility constraints and reduced domiciliary dental visits limit routine oral health monitoring. This project empowers care home staff to capture intraoral images of residents’ gums using a smartphone, enabling dental professionals to conduct remote assessments to facilitate timely, preventive oral care. Care home staff will receive comprehensive training in oral health care and intraoral image capture and basic gingival health indicators supported by a dental nurse who will identify urgent cases requiring in-person follow-up.
