Project Details
Description
The central focus of this project was to create a presentation of British election statistics for 1832-2008 within an existing framework on the public website. The project scanned and geo-referenced over 1000 new historical maps and added all the Constituency information covering the same period to the administrative unit gazetteer. It also created digital historical parliamentary constituency boundaries by merging parish boundaries and then manually editing them using the scanned maps. This project was funded by JISC.
All data created during this project is available to view on the open access website, A Vision of Britain through Time. It was included as a new theme covering political life linking constituency boundaries and voting statistics to deliver a systematic and accessible record of franchise reform and voting behaviour over time.
