Project Details
Description
A project to expand international cooperation and international significance of Polish research institutes and universities. The project had two parts. The first concerned the history of the European city, specifically the changes that occurred in the city space over time and what were the permanent elements that can constitute the city, specifically Warsaw. The second involved international co-operation towards building a system that would allow a uniform approach to city atlases, enabling data exchange and facilitating comparisons.
27-28 January 2020 saw the Kick-off meeting held in Warsaw, Poland. It aimed to set up the project, define the objectives and the proposed pathway to achieving them.
The pandemic forced most subsequent project meetings online. These were:
27-30 April 2020 - Conference: State of the Art
28-30 September 2020 - Workshop #2: Sources and #urbanonto building
09-11 June 2021 - Workshop #3: Introducing #urbanonto to the European Historic Towns Atlas
07-09 September 2022 - Conference: Domain Ontologies and beyond [Münster, Germany & online]
This project also organised study visits between partner institutions. Portsmouth hosted one such visit from a cartographer and GIS specialist from the DARIAH project, based in Poland in March 2022. The visit discussed problems and solutions for dealing with uncertainty around historical places through time.
This project was funded by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) program for Polish researchers. The Portsmouth team collaborated through contributions to the project meetings and conferences.
