Description
Fanfare for Symphony Orchestra. Composed for BBC National Orchestra of Wales. Premiered and recorded at BBC Hoddinot Hall, Cardiff on January 30, 2017.
Subsequently performed by UWE Bristol Symphony Orchestra at Colston Hall, Bristol on March 26, 2017.
The piece uses Brahms Intermezzo in A Major Op.118 No.2 as its source material. Following spinal surgery the composer was again able to play the piano, this piece being the first to be performed. The orchestral fanfare reflects a morphine-induced, dream-like response to the commission brief for a fanfare.
