Project Details

Description

This collaboration aims to identify and assess novel technologies or solutions that can address the priority needs of Southern Water through research-led knowledge transfer. It encompasses a rolling series of trials based around the test-bed facilities at the Environmental Technology Field Station at Petersfield wastewater treatment works. One of the key priorities has been to investigate solutions for phosphorous removal at small wastewater sites and also assessing how managing wastewater process gas emissions can contribute to the Net Zero targets of the water sector.

Layperson's description

This project aims to develop improved solutions to treat wastewater, particularly at the large number of small rural sites with very different requirements to large central plants.

Key findings

To date the Hub has developed design guides for passive phosphorous removal in reactive media filters and supported a wide range of investigations into a diverse range of issues covering metal removal and enhanced biogas production.
