Mother of Stars: Arabian visions of the Milky Way

This project aims to uncover the history of the Arabic names and origin stories of the Milky Way. This is an archival project that makes use of Arabic religious, historical, and literary texts. In parallel, we will create a public engagement program for school pupils who identify as Arab/Muslim that centers on the Arabic names and origin stories of the Milky Way. This group of students is still underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM). This is especially true in physics and astronomy.
