New media, old media? Research challenges, emerging findings and future directions

    Project Details

    Description

Alongside the Co-Conveners for the Political Studies Association (PSA) Media and Politics Group and the PSA Technology, Internet and Policy Group, I am organising a day-long workshop to share research and foster networking opportunities with policy makers working on important technology, policy and media debates.

The event will provide an opportunity for attendees to network with other academics and policy makers working in this area. Sessions include:

    1. Keynote discussion between Prof Tom Rodden (Chief Scientific Advisor, DCMS), Dr Kate Dommett (University of Sheffield), and Prof Simeon Yates (University of Liverpool) titled ‘Evidence-based policymaking: how and why to study different media’

    2. Two panel discussions featuring the latest academic and practitioner perspectives to key debates: (a) Online hate and abuse; (b) Algorithms, bias and decision-making.

Details of the workshop are available to take place on Thursday 19 January are available here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/new-media-old-media-tickets-457065624587.

This is funded by the PSA Research and Innovation Fund (£1,755) and will include contributions from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport, Ofcom, and Reach PLC.
