Project Details

Description

Hayworth is a performance project led by Laura Doye (CCI) in conjunction with the script writer, Bernie Byrnes (CCI), the actress, Rula Lenska, technician Alex Counsell (CCI), Pippa Postock (CCI) in partnership with Doye Mosse productions. My role is as dramaturg. Hayworth tackles the stigmatisation of dementia and mental health by digitally simulating the experience of memory loss and confusion for the audience. Inspired by Rita Hayworth's life, this performance aims to challenge audience perceptions of coping with the experience of dementia. This research will use project mapping technology to create a projected physical set design, using future and emergent technologies to generate creative content for the performance in a hitherto unexplored way. The performance will digitally create the experience of Hayworth and her struggle to hide her condition, and how alcoholism masked her symptoms.
