Project Details
Description
Following on from the success of the first SECC Summer Interns Programme run during the summer vacation 2009, this year the students worked with 3 local community clients:
- St Faith’s Church, Havant;
- St Columba Church, Fareham;
- The Roberts Centre, Portsmouth.
From the first week of the 2010 Interns Programme the students were asked to work closely with Real clients on Live projects in a studio based environment. They were only guided and advised by staff from the Project Office, they were neither led nor spoon fed. The Interns were provided with a timetable of events and were told that they must present their initial research and finished design work on set days in front of their clients. The Interns were provided with a fixed budget and asked to produce postcards, banners, books, models, posters, websites and drawings for each of their three clients.
All 8 of the Interns involved with this intensive project developed their business, design, presentation and leadership skills while at the same time learning how to work as a team under pressure. In this way, the Interns Programme provided the students with a vehicle to undertake paid architectural consultancy work in an academic and practice-based environment.
