Teacher Development Programme

The aims of the project are to up-skill existing trainers who have already completed a level 4 Certificate in Education and Training teaching qualification. These staff will be enrolled onto a Level 5 Cert Ed initial teacher training course which will have a duration of 18 months.The programme delivery will follow the core content of the University of Portsmouth's core Cert Ed in Further Education and Training. However, the mode of delivery will be adapted to meet the business needs of the client. This will comprise of both face to face, block taught sessions and online delivery.

All participants will be linked with a University Personal Tutor who will visit them at their place of work to undertake lesson observations and tutorials. It is a requirement the employer ensure each member of staff is provided with a mentor who is not their line manager. All mentors will be trained by the University at no additional cost.Upon completion of the programme staff will be eligible to apply to the Society for Education and Training for the award of Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS). This is a badge of professionalism for post-16 education and training, helping practitioners advance in their careers and demonstrate their expertise and experience to colleagues, employers and students.
