In 2018-2020, Vrij received funding from the HIG (15F06718C0002573, $290,000 in 2018, $304,500 in 2019 and $319,725 in 2020) for his countermeasures project with Drs Mann and Leal as part-time SRFs.

Key findings

The project examined the effects of providing lie tellers and truth tellers with information about effective lie detection techniques. Truth tellers and lie tellers still differed from each other in speech content after being informed about complications and the working of the Model Statement tool.
