In 2015-2017, Vrij received funding from the HIG (DJF-15-1200-V-0010271, $275,000 in 2015; $283,247 in 2016; and $291,748 in 2017) for his interpreters project with Drs Mann and Leal as part-time Senior Research Fellows examining the effects of a model statement or sketching while narrating in three experiments.

Key findings

The experiments showed that the model statement and sketches elicited more information and verbal cues to deceit in interpreter-absent than interpreter-present interviews.
