Timing of Pleistocene cirque glaciation in the Simien Mountains, Ethiopia

This project investigates the extent and timing of cirque glaciation in the Simien Mountains, Ethiopia. NEIF funding will provide surface exposure ages from samples collected from two glacial cirques. The ages will be used to complete a comprehensive glacial history of the sites, providing a timeline for multiple glacial phases. The former glaciers in the Simien Mountains are ideally placed to provide insight into low latitude climate change of tropical East Africa during the Late Pleistocene.
