The study aims to contribute to gaps in knowledge by focusing on understanding how women’s leadership competencies influence their leadership styles and contribute to the survival, growth and success of SMEs in South Africa and Kenya. It focuses on addressing two main questions: 1) How do female founders’ leadership competencies influence their leadership style? 2) What role do their leadership competencies play in ensuring firm survival, growth and success in a given context?
