Abstract
This study presents a typology of vernacular houses and barns in the village of Karpachevo at Devetaki Plateau region in Bulgaria. Several traditional houses were documented by a team of pre-diploma and diploma students at the Faculty of Architecture guided by Lenko Grigorov with the aim to make an evaluation of the architectural heritage of the region and trace a sustainable pathway for its re-use and repair by using traditional building materials and techniques visible in its primary construction. The aim is to stimulate local culture-sensitive revival of vernacular architecture in Devetaki Plateau region. The first part of the paper deals with a typology of the vernacular houses and barns, while the second part presents a structural analysis of the barn of Bogdan Bogdanov as a typical example of the traditional architecture of the village.
