Abstract

The role of the producer has changed considerably since the latter part of the nineteenth century, when this volume’s coverage begins and when the producer was the individual whose singular artistic vision infused every aspect of a production, including its look and its style. In more recent times, financial aspects of being a producer have become increasingly publicized, and the role has shifted.
