    Abstract

F.M. synthesis is a sound synthesis technique which emerged in the late 1970s. At the time the established commercial synthesis techque available was Subtractive synthesis, which lacked the ability to create perceptually realistic natural sounding timbres. F.M. offered an altenative way of generating sounds which offered more realism in acoustic instrument simulation.

This series of videos demonstrates intermediary F.M. synthesis techniques with which to generally simulate acoustic instruments which are made from specific physical materials properties.
