Abstract

In a paper by Espejo entitled, ‘Our Cyber-Systemic Future’, he sets out is view on how Systems and Cybernetics can be usefully combined. Systemic thinking, he says,’…gives us methodological tools and cybernetics gives us tools to manage the complexity of situations.’ He asks: How is it possible for an enterprise to perform effectively under increasing social, ecological and economic demands? How does it achieve viability in these challenging circumstances? He suggests the Enterprise Complexity Model will provide an integrating framework to address such complexity. Within the context of modern communication systems in this paper, I discuss whether Espejo’s idea that systems thinking and cybernetics modelling can provide the methodological tools to support his assertion and if they are culturally feasible and viable.
