    Abstract

A long term stability of a new conservative hip prosthesis was analyzed. Ten composite bones were coated in a Photoelastic material, positioned at a simplified single leg stance, and loaded at 2.3 KN. The bones were also assessed for areas of excessively low strain, which would result in stress shielding and loosening. The prosthesis produces least change in the surface strain distribution at 135°, and there were no areas of excessively high or low strain.
