Abstract
This paper uses Stephen Sondheim’s musical Company (1971) as a case study to proposes that the actor-musician aesthetic, in which performers play their own musical instruments onstage, can be analysed using neuro-cognitive science and affect theory, presenting a model of analysis based on phantom limb syndrome, mirror neuron theory and embodied cognition.
