N2 - Bangladesh is a promising country to develop marine aquaculture due to the country owns vast coastal and marine water resources enriched recently after the end of the final settlement of maritime boundary disputes with neighboring countries viz. Myanmar and India. Meanwhile, several potential areas and opportunities of marine aquaculture have been identified for implementation under the concept of blue economy development in Bangladesh. So attempts need to be undertaken to initiate and implement aquaculture of some selected marine fish (viz. sea bass, hilsa shed, mullet etc); shrimp (viz. tiger prawn) and crab (mud crab) and some non-traditional marine species like seaweed, macro algae, shellfish (ie. mussel, oyster etc.), sea urchin, sea cucumber etc. In these context major identified challenges and constrains to be properly addressed. Respective ministries, departments and research institutions along with interested private entrepreneurs might sit together for proper formulation of strategies, planning and coordination for effective development and implementation of marine aquaculture farming in the coast, near shore and offshore areas of the country.
