Building occupancy estimation using a probabilistic approach

Lighting and ventilation can be easily controlled if occupancy detection system is available which enable saving of energy and offering more comfortable building environment, however, exact and accurate measurements of occupancy detection remains not easy task to achieve. This paper present a technique to determine the occupancy level in a building which is divided into zones using video cameras deployed at the front of each zone where image processing algorithm has been developed in order to determine the number of passing people in every zone.
