    Abstract

    An overview and critical appraisal of the career of director Christopher Nolan from his early short films to the completion of his "Dark Knight" Batman trilogy. The chapter contrasts Nolan's experimentation with narrative form and structure with his aesthetic and technical traditionalism, with reference to his experiments' antecedents in thriller genre and the European art film.
