    Abstract

"Cinematic" in any context can be an inconsistent and subjective descriptor. What makes sound or video games cinematic within their individual contexts is already difficult to formally establish before the two are combined to consider cinematic game sound. This chapter draws from relevant theory concerning film, audio signal processing, auditory perception and musical composition with the aim of better understanding the meaning of cinematic game sound in both practical and theoretical terms.
