    Abstract

A large scale collaborative field based research programme aimed at improving the current knowledge and understanding of the coastal processes associated with shingle beach morphodynamics is presently underway in the South of the UK. The primary stage consisted of a field measurement campaign undertaken in the autumn of 1996 on an undisturbed shingle beach. The campaign and the data collection is described and some of the initial data collected during that campaign are presented.
