    Abstract

The effect of the overaging step in the continuous annealing process on the microstructure and mechanical properties of cold-rolled CMnSi dual-phase ferrite-martensite steel was investigated. Overaging was performed at 50°C and 90°C. Dilatometry was used to determine the intercritical temperatures, the Ms and Mf temperatures, and simulate the overaging step. The amount of solute carbon in ferrite was determined by internal friction. Optical Microscopy and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy were applied to study the overaged DP microstructures. Mechanical properties of DP steels were tested by means of uniaxial tensile tests. The results of the investigation show that a high overaging temperature (90°C) and a long overaging time, longer than 250 seconds, are favored to increase the ductility of the DP steel without loss of strength.
