Abstract
The Diploma in Education is a one-year postgraduate degree, offered by the Institute of Education of the ORT Uruguay University since 1996 and aimed at working teachers. Together with its fifth edition in face-to-face mode, in April 2000 the first edition of the Diploma in Education began in distance mode. Since then, the Institute of Education has offered the Diploma in both modalities, every year. The degree obtained by the participants is the same, regardless of the study modality they choose. As it is the first postgraduate course for educators taught by a Uruguayan university through the Internet, it was considered necessary to monitor its development, in search of conclusions that could be applied to this and other distance courses. Follow-up work, which covered academic, technological and administrative aspects, was in charge of Mirian Gregori and Alejandro Armellini, under the general coordination of Enrique Lorenzo. This article presents a synthesis of the academic results that emerge from the follow-up study of the Diploma in Education (distance modality, 2000-2001 edition) and the recommendations that arise from said study.
