    Abstract

    The main objectives of this chapter are:
    - to examine the main employment relations features and trends with specific reference to the UK;
    - to explain the nature of joint regulation and account for its diminished importance as a means of determining the terms of employment relationships;
    - to identify and evaluate critically the principal managerial approaches employment relations;
    - to demonstrate the relevance of conflict and cooperation to understanding the management of employment relations in contemporary organizations.
