Abstract

This video and supporting blog article explores the digital emulation and simulation of the sound of worn/old magnetic tape using software plugins and digital audio processors. The concept of emulating "vintage" sounds ihas become a popular audio/music production goal and aesthetic. There are a growing number of commercial products (pluginsand hardware processors) which command premium prices and can be inaccesible to many musicians and artists. This project explores the effective recreation of this aesthetic using techniques readily available in standard plugins such as Audio Workstation plugin delay processors.
