Abstract
In May 2010, a new collaborative initiative was launched between the Portsmouth Business School and Hewlett Packard (HP). It leverages HP's Lean Sigma Black Belt training by adding an academic dimension which encourages strategic thinking and critical awareness, thus leading to more effective and sustainable improvement solutions. This paper explores the need for and impact of this initiative.
