    Abstract

    Since the 5th century BC when Herodicus was advocating good diet for physical training, the influence of nutrition on sporting on sporting performance has been a predominant and enduring theme. in contrast, the influence of environment on sporting on sporting performance is a relatively recent consideration, and one that often is overlooked. Yet, environmental influences can have an enormous impact on performance and safety. This chapter reviews the influences of heat, cold and altitude on the human body.
