    Abstract

This chapter reviews the requirements for beach lifeguards’ eyesight. This includes not only visual acuity but also many often hotly debated issues such as colour blindness and the use of sunglasses, swimming goggles and contact lenses. Where advice can be based on scientific evidence, this evidence is presented; where this cannot be done, a recommendation is based on clinical experience.
