Fighting corruption via performance audit: experiences from the European Court of auditors

Research output: Contribution to specialist publicationFeatured article

Abstract

This contribution highlights my experience as a trainee in the private office of Professor Alex Brenninkmeijer, the Dutch Member of the European Court of Auditors (ECA). Together with the Dutch office and a team of auditors, I was involved in designing a performance audit in the area of public procurement of European Union (EU) institutions.1 I learned that the ECA is an institution with a great potential, though not fully exploited, to fight corruption effectively via its performance audits.
