    Abstract

The utilisation of non-toxic polymeric coating materials onto which colonising organisms will not adhere presents an attractive means of preventing the fouling of surfaces. In this paper the authors review the molecular design requirements for the fabrication of materials which, if applied as coatings, can remove the ability of fouling micro-organisms to form a permanent bond with the coated surface.
