Abstract

At the end of 2019 there were 33.8 million people who had fled their country in search of safety. Syrians continue to be the largest forcibly displaced population worldwide. Operation Syrian Refugees was a Canadian government program that resettled 25,000 Syrian refugees from November 2015 to February 2016. Canada also resettled the highest number of refugees in 2019. One organization that has committed to helping forced immigrant families integrate into the community is the local recreation center. The recreation center consists of a pool, basketball courts, squash courts, a running track, and a fully equipped gym. Many male Syrian youth also eagerly speak about the opportunity to join a competitive soccer team. Soccer is a sport they grew up playing and many wish to train just like the professionals they watch on television.
