Abstract

THIS paper seeks to identify some of the current issues that confront police authorities and which can be expected to have significant implications for both their role and function into the 1990s. It also offers an interpretation of the recent debate concerning the future status of the police authority and its position within the tripartite structure established by the 1964 Police Act.
