Abstract

The Healing Trauma evaluation project used a mixed methods research design to evaluate the Healing Trauma intervention in seven women's prisons in England. The evaluation measured the impact of Healing Trauma on symptoms of trauma and offending-related behaviours among women prison residents. The evaluation concluded that Healing Trauma has positive impacts on depression, anxiety, PTSD, psycholgical distress, and trauma-related problems such as dissociation and sleep disturbance. Focus group discussions revealed participants found the intervention highly valuable, particularly in terms of improving trust, self-confidence, overcoming shame, and developing their coping skills.
