    Abstract

Understanding how people management practices influence performance and add value for organisations is an area of intense interest to academics and managers. Research in this area has played a major role in shaping the concept of HRM and its role in contributing to organisational performance. The design and application of metrics and management systems are a challenging area as organisations seek to determine the value of their 'human capital' and the contribution this makes to the business.
