Humanitarian security management: some observations from the earthquake relief operation in Syria

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

In a recent commentary in Medicine, Conflict, and Survival, Hasenstab & Smith (2023) provided their perspective on the state of and scholarly research on pre-deployment security training (PDST) in humanitarian aid. The humanitarian aid response operations in Syria, that followed the February 6, 2023, earthquakes in south-central Türkiye, which have caused large-scale material damage and extreme human suffering provide an empirical basis to further review the importance of not only PDST but also operational humanitarian security management (HSM) during civil wars.
