Abstract
The author, on a recent visit to the mountain kingdom of Lesotho, had the opportunity to talk to villagers concerning their knowledge of weather and climate and this article seeks to describe and analyse some of the results obtained. Although the indigenous knowledge is compared with the insight given by meteorological science, this article does not seek to make valued judgements on the validity and usefulness of the indigenous knowledge, but attempts to develop a classification of so-called 'weather lore' using the Lesotho example.
