These pillows are constituted by a border of a few millimeters or centimeters wide of basanitic material and a nucleus constituted by pumice materials of rhyolitic-trachytic composition.

The textural, mineralogical and geochemical data indicate that the origin of these peculiar pillows is a basanitic magma and the pumice rocks represent the earlier magmatic differentiates of this magma carry to the surface by the fluids joint with the magma.
