Abstract
One of our leading intellectuals, Neferti X.M. Tadiar, once wrote about a fantasy of Philippine politics as “a star-studded spectacle set amid the gritty third world realities of hunger and squalor.” But right now there’s nothing fantastical about the threats, tantrums, twists and turns of the vicious power struggle between our President, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos and our Vice President Sara Duterte. With the Philippine House of Representatives having voted on 5th February to impeach VP Duterte, the situation is critical, prompting concerns about a leadership vacuum in these perilous times.
